Kuske’s 2011-season
It’s that time of the year… All the major film titles has landed, and the filmers are finally starting to show what they did last winter!
The man, the myth, the legendarily bearded-and-allround-handsome-guy Kuske recently dropped this recap of his 2011-season. You should check it out!
In my opinion, no one has a better feeling for what makes a snowboardfilm than Kuske. The way he samlessly stiches together good music with the best shots… dang!
Wonder if I’ll get around to making my own recap… we’ll see!

Snöyran day 4
I think it’s quite amazing that I’m actually doing this post from the night train from Gällivare to Uppsala – going straight through the middle of nowhere! Doing this a few years ago would be a fantasy, just like the iPad I’m using to write it… Well, enough nerdtalk.
Today was the last day of shooting Snöyran, the big winter festival in Gällivare. I’ve been contracted to make two edits from the event, and have been been filming for four days.
Last night there was some serious partying going down, so many of the boys weren’t really up for shredding. I also had some other stuff to shoot downtown (speeches, markets and xmas activities) so it wasn’t such a big loss. I left them a brocam and went by myself to shoot santa, kids, horses and more kids. Maybe not exactly what I’d call my ordinary mission, but I got some shots well serving the purpose. See some framegrabs below.

Snöyran dag 3
Today we tasted the bitterness of Berit. She came storming in causing rain, snow and harsh winds. But it turned out pretty well in the end after all! The weather tidied up just in time for freestyle night. See some framegrabs from today below. More will come tomorrow when I’m on my 14 h trainride back home again!
Snöyran day 2
Today was the second day of filming Snöyran in Gällivare. Pretty much the whole day was one serious blizzard, which is precisely what we needed! Winter came to Gällivare just in time…
Sadly we also had some serious crashes during the test-jumping of the snowmobile-jump. The first guy flew too far and got himself a back injury and a dislocated elbow, then the second guy came short and broke his wrist… Now two out of three slednecks are out, but the last one keeps it up with good spirits, and has already impressed me with some crazy air!
The freestyle motocross dudes also made it look so easy.. I just don’t get how you’d get the courage to do what they do!
I’m sorry about the crappy light in the framegrabs. Hopefully we’ll have better light tomorrow!
Mostly I spent the day shooting stocks, but we also had some time to play in the park and shoot some epic lifestyleeee… See some framegrabs from today below!
If you’re anywhear near Gällivare, make sure you don’t miss the Freestyle Night tomorrow. There’ll be a heck of a party, and if that’s not enough, you’ll also get a chance to see me in action! 
I’ll let everyone’s favourite German end this update. A word of advice… Beware when Klas Ink is drunk/in action! Excited to see the result tomorrow!
Snöyran day 1
I’m in Gällivare baby yeah! First day of shooting the event Snöyran.
I’m way too tired to actually make a serious blog entry, so I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Brief summary of the day though: Went on the train for 14 hours with Rolf, went sightseeing in Gällivare, hung around Dundret (local resort), filmed ”World Cup Kidz”, filmed opening ceremony downtown, went to film at the indoor skate park.

Transition Winter Awards and more…
Alot of exciting stuff is going down the coming week. It really feels like winter will finally be here! Today is the annual Transition Winter Awards – and many of my dear friends are nominated:

Also going down this week is the first filming-trip of the season! Yes that’s right, yours truly is going to the capitol of kok-kaffe, Gällivare! An event called Snöyran is taking place there the 24th-27th, and I’ve been called up to hang out and film the good times. It’s gonna be awesome!

Just a full page in the paper… no biggie
Woke up this morning to a pleasant surprise! Turns out that the morning newspaper chose to feature our (Johan Schedins) photo from last sunday’s photo trip as their daily full page photo! (Click to enlarge)
Pretty stoked, especially since we considered the photo mission a complete failure.. Read about the mission here. The photo was shot by Johan Schedin, below is the man himself shooting some more ol’ cars.

This was fun! Perhaps this could be a recurring thing from our photo/timelapse missions… time will tell!
A trip to the car cemetery…
Yesterday I went out with my trusty ol’ timelapsin’ buddy Johan Schedin. We had talked about this one spot for sooo long! There was supposed to be a big pile of rusty old cars from the 50′s which had been engulfed by nature. Rumors had it there were trees growing straight through old wrecks – like a car-tree cyborg!
So we set out for an epic session, prepared with coffee and ”långkalsonger” for a really long cold HDR-timelapsin’ night at the car cemetery…
Then it all failed.
Apparently all the cars had been removed since they were a threat to the environment. Good for mother nature – bad for us. Still, a few cars were left behind. The setting was nowhere near what we had hoped for – and the weather was crap – but we decided to document what was left. See the result below (most photos by Johan Schedin).

HDR-timelapse… Hot stuff!
This weekend I decided that being bitter about not going to a summery glacier won’t get me anywhere… So instead I called my good old friend Johan ”Spoon” Schedin. In longing memory of winter and absence of slushy summer shedding we decided to do the only reasonable thing: spend a really cold evening downtown Uppsala experimenting with HDR and timelapse! These are the results… Actual video will be up as soon as I get my deflickering software working…

Guldpjäxan update!
Idag kom det upp ett litet reportage/intervju med mig på TV-Åre i anknytning till Guldpjäxan 2011. I reportaget kan man också se lite bakom kameran-material! Spana in intervjun antigen via Facebook eller på TV-Åres hemsida.
Som jag tidigare skrev så sitter jag alltså i år i juryn för att bedöma bästa klippning. Hett tips är att skicka in era alster till tävlingen – det är lätt den cleanaste filmtävlingen som finns. Om jag inte själv satt i juryn skulle jag vilja vara med och tävla! Det som gör tävlingen unik är att den helt och hållet bedöms av en jury istället för internetröstning – det är alltså de bra filmerna och inte bara de som har flest vänner på facebook (nu låter det lite kaxigt – men jag tänker längre än vår egen film!)
När intervjun gjordes höll vi på att spela in ett hemligt pilotprojekt baserat på filmen vi vann med. Än så länge har filmen inte blivit klar än – men när den väl blir det kan ni räkna med rabalder!

Känns lite narcissistiskt att lägga upp detta, men då får jag väl vara det! Förra veckan gjorde snow/skateportalen tacky.se en filmarintervju med mig. I intervjun pratar jag om min syn på snowboardfilmning m.m. Kul för mig, och kanske intressant för någon? Hela intervjun finns att läsa här.
Har fått lite frågor om bilden ovan som publicerades i samband med intervjun. Den är tagen av Per H. Eles under inspelningen av Spindelgången, en långfilm jag var B-foto på sommaren 2009. Kameran är en SI-2K, en ”digital biokamera”. Lite svårjobbad men ger sjukt snygga bilder! Mer om filmen kan man läsa på filmens blogg.
Lite nya funktioner på bloggen!
Jag har en stund funderat på hur man kan få mer överskådlighet på bloggen, och har nu lagt till en ”senaste poster” till höger. I samma veva lade jag till möjligheten att kommentera inlägg med sin facebook. Man kan självklart fortfarande välja att vara anonym om man vill det.

…”Ställ en fråga / Tipsa”-fliken? Jag lade till den för en stund sedan. Meningen är att du som läsare ska kunna fråga, önska eller tipsa om saker. T.ex. frågade Simon om jag kunde göra en timelapse-tutorial, vilket jag tyckte var ett jättebra förslag! Så mer sånt nu! Kom igen! Jag är jätteglad om jag kan hjälpa till med nåt!
Regnigt sthlm
Efter att ha intagit Stockholm var planen idag att åka nåt spot – planer som gick i stöpet så fort man såg ut ur fönstret i morse. Istället blev det en redig Gyros och klippkollning.
Möjligtvis kan det bli ett litet spot nu ikväll i Norrtälje om lusten faller på, sen blir det förhoppningsvis mer shred i veckan!
Har du rätt Picture Style (Bildstil)?
Hur man gör rätt inställningar för att få den bästa möjliga bilden på sin systemkamera kan vara allt annat än självklart. Dels kan det vara lite krångligare med alla inställningar (slutartid, bländare, ISO), men nu syftar jag i synnerhet på det som på Canon-kameror kallas ”Picture Profiles” eller ”Bildstilar” på svenska. Jag ska nu göra ett försök på att förklara dessa.
Man kan säga att Picture Styles är som mer avancerade inställningar för hur bilden ska se ut (lite som färgkorrigering på förhand). Det finns ett antal förprogrammerade (tror de heter Standard, Portrait, Faithful, Landscape och Neutral). Man skulle ju kunna tro: ”Äh, jag låter den stå på ‘Standard’ så blir det nog lagom bra…”. FEEEEL! Det är det absolut sämsta man kan göra.
Det bästa man kan göra är såklart att läsa på om det, det finns väldigt mycket kunnigt folk som kan förklara det på olika forum runt omkring på nätet, som t.ex. här eller här, men jag kommer ge er en ultrakortversion, och en längre version.
Ultrakort version (Såhär gör jag): I Picture Styles-menyn, skapa en egen utifrån Neutral med inställningarna: Sharpness -4, Contrast -4, Saturation -2, lämna color tone oförändrad. (för bild se kommentarfältet på denna länk, men bortse från den högra menyn). Detta är Picture Style:n jag använder nu, som jag tycker ger en bra allround-look.
Längre version: Genom Picture Styles ställer man in skärpa, kontrast, färgmättnad och färgtoner. Detta är värden du säkert känner till från redigering, och då vet du säkert också vad de gör. För er som inte vet så ger t.ex. en hög kontrast att allt ljust i bilden blir helt vitt, och allt mörkt blir helt svart. Detta vill man ju inte alltid ha, t.ex. kan det ju vara trevligt att se konturer i snön, eller att se åkaren när man filmar en kvällsession. Picture Style:n som heter ”Standard” har högst kontrast av alla, och ger svarta mörkområden och vita ljusområden = precis det man oftast vill undvika. Som exempel se filmen nedan, det är den första editen jag gjorde med min 7D (ett år gammal). Den är filmad med ”Standard” Picture Style. Kontrasten är stark mellan ljust och mörkt, och färgerna är jättestarka.
För den som orkar rekommenderar jag att undersöka olika Picture Styles på egen hand. Jag är långt ifrån någon expert på detta område, men ibland känner jag att det kan räcka med att veta sina begränsningar. Det finns en Picture Style som heter Marvels Cine 7D, som har en anpassningsbar Cine-gammakurva. Denna använde jag mycket förra året, bland annat till mitt material i Random Bastards 7Up (alla kranvinklar och en del lifestyle), och till denna musikvideo. Fördelen med Marvels Cine 7D är att den verkar ha längre dynamiskt omfång, men nackdelen är att den skapar nån form av jättekonstiga hudtoner. Det framgår inte i musikvideon, men den blev färgkorrigerad av en skitduktig kille som heter Emil Eriksson. I Random Bastards kan man dock se det ganska tydligt.
Jag avslutar med att embedda denna video som så många andra gjort. Den förklarar allting på ett ganska enkelt sätt, förmodligen mycket enklare än vad jag gjort. Dock vill jag avråda från att använda Picture Styles:en SuperFlat, och AdvancedFlat. De är helt enkelt för extrema.
Jag vet att Nikon också har ett liknande system med olika bildinställningar, men de vet jag inget om. Dessutom har man större problem med D-movie läget (Nikons DSLR-filmläge) än så, då man inte kan ställa in nånting alls manuellt…
