Snöyran snowcamp edit
Here’s the first edit from Snöyran Snowboardcamp I filmed last weekend in Gällivare. It was a fun, chill few days filled with lots of friends.
I saw that Eric Johansson posted a photo on facebook of the gang with the description ”Class reunion”, and it really feels like that when filming with Lemke and the northern boys. Hope to hang around with them some more this winter!
What’s unusual for me with filming this edit is that I only used handheld DSLR. No tripod, dolly or crane. I also used only three lenses: The samyang 14mm f/2,8; a nikkor 35mm f/2; and a nikkor 50mm f/2. I could never do this without my Swedish Chameleon DSLR Rig, and the big hardcase to fit all my stuff.
As you can see I also used my beloved furry mic. DSLRs mostly won’t give you pro audio, but it sure helps with stereo and a decent windstopper! I also had good use of my DÖRR LED-panel when filming the after party. Not so sure everyone enjoyed it at the club though.
There will be one more edit coming from the main event. I’ll post that later. And if you’re wondering about the colours in this edit, I simply applied a ”cross process effect” using this tutorial for photoshop, but applying it in After Effects:
Snöyran dag 3
Today we tasted the bitterness of Berit. She came storming in causing rain, snow and harsh winds. But it turned out pretty well in the end after all! The weather tidied up just in time for freestyle night. See some framegrabs from today below. More will come tomorrow when I’m on my 14 h trainride back home again!
Snöyran day 1
I’m in Gällivare baby yeah! First day of shooting the event Snöyran.
I’m way too tired to actually make a serious blog entry, so I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Brief summary of the day though: Went on the train for 14 hours with Rolf, went sightseeing in Gällivare, hung around Dundret (local resort), filmed ”World Cup Kidz”, filmed opening ceremony downtown, went to film at the indoor skate park.

A trip to the car cemetery…
Yesterday I went out with my trusty ol’ timelapsin’ buddy Johan Schedin. We had talked about this one spot for sooo long! There was supposed to be a big pile of rusty old cars from the 50′s which had been engulfed by nature. Rumors had it there were trees growing straight through old wrecks – like a car-tree cyborg!
So we set out for an epic session, prepared with coffee and ”långkalsonger” for a really long cold HDR-timelapsin’ night at the car cemetery…
Then it all failed.
Apparently all the cars had been removed since they were a threat to the environment. Good for mother nature – bad for us. Still, a few cars were left behind. The setting was nowhere near what we had hoped for – and the weather was crap – but we decided to document what was left. See the result below (most photos by Johan Schedin).
RB Tentacle Update #2 Norrland!
Here’s the second update for the upcoming Random Bastards Tentacle snowboardfilm. Don’t miss the premiere party september 30th in Stockholm!
This update is different from the first one. Mainly because I simply didn’t have as much time to put into this one, since the premiere is closing in.
The update was filmed this spring in the northern parts of sweden: Umeå and Klimpfjäll. I’ve been wanting to share some of this material for so long! It was easily the most fun I’ve had while filmed so far… Hanging out with the full RB-crew in their own back yard… so many fun, creative spots! Even the backcountry kickers were actually ”urban” tow-ins in a gravel pit!

Another HDR Timelapse
This will be my last post for some days since I’m going away for a well deserved ”svennesemester” (swedish vacation) next week. Hopefully the weather will be different from what you’ll see in these HDR-timelapses from last saturday – although I think the dark clouds look really epic in HDR…
So again this was shot by me and Johan Schedin, during a saturday afternoon at Skokloster and Wiks Slott near my home town Uppsala in Sweden. As we sat in the car during the last shot, we found out about a really sweet HDR/timelapse-location: A 60′s car cemetery! Sadly we won’t be able to shoot it until this fall since Johan is going away for the summer… but then hopefully we’ll get some epic coloured leaves to go with the rusty ol’ cars!

Jag skrev tidigare om den nya ”Cinestyle” Picture Profile för Canon EOS-kameror som ger dig ett mycket bättre resultat om du kan göra lite färgkorrigering. Just färgkorrigering (a.k.a. grading) kan ju dock vara en pärs för en del, och därför tänkte jag nu tipsa om två väldigt kraftfulla men enkla och bekväma gradingverktyg som nu har släppts gratis!
Det första verktyget heter Magic Bullet Colorista Free, och är lite som en lightversion av deras Colorista II. Man kan ladda ned det som en plugin till flera olika program (Adobe cs5, Final Cut m.fl.) på denna länk (man måste fylla i sitt namn). Verktyget är superenkelt. Det består av tre hjul, ett för skuggor, ett för mellantoner och ett för högdagrar. Vart och ett av dessa hjul kan separat både nivåjusteras, för att kompensera för fel exponering (ljusare/mörkare), och färgkorrigeras för att passa in färgtoner. Med andra ord ger det en ganska så full kontroll över alla grundläggande gradingbehov.
Det andra verktyget heter Magic Bullet LUT buddy, och finns på samma länk som det ovan. Detta verktyg är lite mer komplicerat i botten, men i det här fallet är det ett idiotsäkert sätt att få ditt Cinestyle-material att se bättre ut. Låt mig förklara: när du filmar med Cinestyle får du en ganska tråkig och grådaskig bild. Detta är bra om du vill lägga tid på gradingen. Det kan dock finnas tillfällen när du snabbt vill visa det med mer ”äkta färger”. Då är detta verktyg perfekt, bara att lägga på effekten och sen ser det bättre ut! Det funkar såhär: du lägger på LUT buddy på klippet, sen importerar du en fil med otimerade grading-data från de samma som skapade Cinestyle. BOOM! Sen är det klart.

Grym ny uppdatering för alla Canon EOS-filmare!
På Canons DSLR-kameror finns en inställning som heter Picture Profile/Picture Style. Denna inställning låter användaren påverka hur färger, skärpa och kontraster hanteras i kameran innan fimlen sparas ner på kortet. Diskussionerna kring vad man ska använda för att få ut bästa bilden har varit många och långa – men nu tycks all ta en vändning. I dagarna släpptes en Picture Style som är resultatet av ett samarbete mellan Canon och giganten Technicolor. Den är skapad för att spara ned så mycket information som möjligt, så att man kan göra bästa möjliga bilden i efterhand. Jag har själv installerat den på min kamera och kan direkt se stor skillnad från vad jag använt tidigare (Neutral med vissa ändringar, sk. ”Philip Bloom Neutral”).
Mitt tips till alla som filmar med Canon EOS-kameror är alltså att skaffa denna ”uppdatering” på direkten! Du kan läsa allt du behöver veta HÄR, och ladda ned filen HÄR (du måste fylla i namn och mailadress…)
